The Renowned Father Of The Internet
A couple years after he dropped out of school, a civil war broke out and he was drafted into the Biafran army. That did not deter Emeagwali, and when the war ended, he continued to study at the local public library. There, in the library, he taught himself advanced math, physics, and chemistry by studying on his own, and at the age of 17, completed his high school equivalency test and won a scholarship to study mathematics at Oregon State University.

A family photo taken with Emeagwali and his cousin Charles (third from right) with him standing on the right (December 1962 at Uromi, Nigeria). He dropped out of school four and half years later.
Dr. Philip Emeagwali is also known as the "Bill Gates of Africa". He was born in Nigeria in the year 1957. Like many African schoolchildren, he dropped out of school at age 14 because his father could not continue paying the fees to keep him in school. However, his father continued teaching him at home, and everyday Emeagwali performed mental exercises such as solving 100 math problems in one hour. His father taught him until Philip "knew more than his father did he did."
Growing up in a country torn by civil war, Emeagwali lived in a building crumbled by rocket shells. He believed his intellect was a way out of the line of fire. So he studied hard and eventually received a scholarship to Oregon State University when he was 17 where he obtained a BS in mathematics. He also earned three other degrees - a Ph.D. in Scientific computing from the University of Michigan and two Masters degrees from George Washington University.

Dr. Philip Emeagwali's resume is loaded with many other such feats, including ways of making oil fields more productive - which has resulted in the United States saving hundreds of millions of dollars each year. As one of the most famous African-American inventors of the 20th century, Dr. Emeagwali also has won the Gordon Bell Prize - the Nobel Prize for computation. His computers are currently being used to forecast the weather and to predict the likelihood and effects of future global warming.
Emeagwali wanted to become a mathematician, physicist or astronomer. He could not study these subjects at the cutting-edge level in Africa, so he came to the United States. During the week that he arrived in the United States, he went to an airport, used a telephone, used a library, talked with a scientist, and was shown a computer for the first time in his life.
In 1989 he won the Gordon Bell Prize. He accessed the Connection Machine over the Internet. The Connection Machines owned by the United States government laboratories were made available to him because they were considered impossible to program and there was no great demand for them at that time. In fact, the national laboratories that purchased them were embarrassed because their scientists could not program them and they were hardly being used. The labs were happy that Emeagwali was brave enough to attempt to program it and the million computer was left entirely to his use. He was, in a sense, their human guinea pig.

The Connection Machine was the most powerful supercomputer in the world. It is a complex supercomputer, briefly, to program it requires an absolute understanding of how all 65,536 processors are interconnected. The processing nodes are configured as a cube in a 12-dimensional universe, although we only use it to solve problems arising from our three-dimensional universe.
To perform the world's fastest computation, he divided and evenly distributed the calculations among the 65,536 processors and then squeezed the most performance from the each processor. It took him 1057 pages to describe the hundreds of mathematical equations, algorithms and programming techniques that he invented and used. The details would be of interest to mathematicians and super computer nerds only. This discovery helps analyze petroleum fields and does massive calculations.
Sarkozy Concedes Defeat In French Presidential Election
Early exit polls showed the socialist candidate to have gained at least 4% more of the vote than the conservative incumbent, Mr Sarkozy .
"It was an immense privilege to be the President of France," Mr Sarkozy said in a farewell speech.
"I bear full responsibility for defeat," he said in the speech given 20 minutes after polls closed at 8pm.
"I want to thank the millions of French people who have voted for me, but I have not succeeded in convincing all of the French people," he told hundreds of cheering supporters.
"Together we have had an unbelievable campaign."
The Hollande victory may now change how Europe tackles the eurozone debt crisis - with more stimulus and less austerity.
Mr Hollande will be France's first socialist president since Francois Mitterrand, who was leader from 1981-1995.

Sunday Times Rich List 2012: Wealth of richest grows to record levels
Their total fortune has risen by just under five per cent since 2011, to £414 billion, according to the latest Sunday Times Rich List.
That exceeds the previous record of £412.8 billion set in 2008, which came just a few months before the financial crash from which the wider British economy has yet to recover.
Heading the list for the seventh year running is the steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, although his wealth has fallen £4,814m to £12,700m, placing him just £385m ahead of Alisher Usmanov, whose Metalloinvest is Russia’s biggest iron ore producer.
Usmanov’s fortune has also fallen, in his case by £85m in the past year, in part because of charitable donations of £91m.
Third placed Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea FC has seen his wealth fall by £800m to £9,500m.
But if the top three richest men in Britain have seen their fortunes slide, huge earnings elsewhere have fuelled this year’s record total wealth.
Efforts by hard-pressed families to make their wages go further during the economic downturn have boosted the fortunes of the owners of cut-price retail outlets.
Liverpool-based Tom Morris and family, who own the Home Bargains stores, have seen their fortune leap from £160m to £620m. The B&M Retail discount chain, also based in the north west, has contributed to a £144m increase in the wealth of its owners, Simon, Robin and Bobby Arora, taking them to £487m and a place in the top 200.
Some of the biggest gains have been made by those who do not fall in the billionaire bracket, or even those with fortunes of over £750m.
The wealth of individuals with between £330m and £750m has gone up 7.8 per cent this year, with those worth £328m to £151m seeing their fortunes grow by 9 per cent. That compares to a rise of just 2.5 per cent in the wealth of the richest 100.
There has been a sharp rise in the wealth of British-born entrepreneurs, with Laurence Graff, the diamond retailer, seeing his fortune go up £1,300m to £3,300m.
The performance of the earth-moving machinery firm JCB saw the fortune of its owner Sir Anthony Bamford and family go up by £1,500m to £3,150m, while Sir James Dyson, the inventor of the bagless vacuum cleaner, saw his fortune increase by £1,200m to £2,650m.
Topping the list of who, among Britain’s richest individuals, are also the most generous philanthropists is the artist David Hockney. He has given away more than twice his residual wealth of £34m by donating works valued at £76.5m, as well as £730,000 in cash, through the David Hockney Foundation.
Overall, donations or pledges from the top 100 philanthropists increased by £220m to £1.89 billion. That saw the amount of residual wealth donated by the top 100 richest people pass the milestone of at least one per cent for the first time in The Sunday Times Rich List’s 11-year history.
There have been notable changes in the fortunes of Britain’s richest artists, entertainers and celebrities.
Sir Paul McCartney, whose marriage to Nancy Shevell, the millionaire daughter of a US trucking magnate, has seen his estimated worth rocket from £495 to £665 million, making him the third-wealthiest man in British music. Ranked above him are Clive Calder, the music executive with a £1,350m fortune and Sir Cameron Mackintosh, whose wealth has grown by seven per cent to £725m.
JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, has seen her wealth grow by £30m to £560m, placing her 148th on the list.
Daniel Ek, the London-based owner of the music download site Spotify, makes his first appearance on the Rich List at 395, equalling the £190 million valuation of David and Victoria Beckham, who themselves added £25 million to their combined worth.
The Sunday Times Rich List Top 10:
1. Lakshmi Mittal and family, steel: £12,700m
2. Alisher Usmanov, mining and investment: £12,315m
3. Roman Abramovich, oil and industry: £9,500m
4. Sri and Gopi Hinduja, industry and finance: £8,600m
5. Leonard Blavatnik, industry: £7,580m
6. Ernesto and Kirsty Bertarelli, pharmaceuticals: £7,400m
7. The Duke of Westminster, property: £7,350m
8. David and Simon Reuben, property and internet: £7,083m
9. John Fredriksen and family, shipping and oil services: £6,600m

Problems will become God’s glory in your life
Pastor Bose asked those who were ministered at the 18th anniversary of the Embassy of God church to come up the stage and prayed that God would honour and reveal Himself in a special way to those ministers.
Then a couple came to the stage, Olga and Oleg for the blessing of God’s for their new baby daughter. They testified how God kept the mother miraculously during pregnancy and brought to life a healthy child.
Next on stage was a couple Timur and Katerina for thier engagement. The fiancé Timur gave the following advice to the unmarried members :” Adhere to the chosen way and image given by God. Do not spread yourself too thinly to doubtful relationships not from God, but wait patiently to what God has prepared for you”. Katerina added: “We were walking in obedience having no desire to go further without God, because we wished He would bless our future family.”
Then Pastor Bose said that in our church we have rules and there must be obedience in God’ use. “If you love yourself and your future spouse you will do everything for you to be blessed by God. Never be in a hurry as real love is able to wait. We do not sin in a church, do not date and have no sexual relationships before marriage as this is a sin before God”, - pastor edified.
Pastor Bose added that the anniversary was full of content and made a review of the messages preached during April
Pastor Bose Adelaja shared the powerful preaching titled “The stone was pushed off the grave”
“The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate.
"Sir," they said, "we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise again.' So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first."Take a guard," Pilate answered. "Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how."
So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard” (Mt.27:62-66)
Pharisees thought that Jesus was the biggest trouble in their life, and if they took Him away everything would go for their favour. But they were mistaken. Pharisees tried all possible means, but having failed they made the decision to kill Him.
Pastor drew the congregation`s attention to the subject of anger. It is so easy to commit murder by living in anger. Those who are imprisoned for a crime of murder realize that anger brought them here. The same story with enemies of Jesus – priests: they did not understand His mission, but only saw Him as an impostor, and anger was growing in their hearts with each day.
Pastor reminded the words of pastor Sunday from the book “The Jesus you never knew” as the most important one. If you do not know Jesus you will kill Him as it is feasible to kill not only physically. It is a piece of cake to kill truth, faith, and understanding of who Jesus is for all people on the earth.
From a small confrontation righteous people and priests whose hands were clean came to a murder. “I was pondering over those who still hate us trying to distract people as many as possible from the Embassy of God church, and I see how the devil deceives and tempts them. These people curse us thinking that they are fighting for God. To search God and do good is harder than to harm God’s nation. Before I did not understand the scripture about the log in the eye, but today this is very urgent. Jesus asked: “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” “First take the log out of your own eye”, - pastor Bose continued.
Death is not the end both for a believer and Jesus! In Christianity everything starts from death: a seed will not revive if it does not die. We will not resurrect if do not die with Him!
Pharisees were glad after Jesus’ death only for 3 days. But He told that would be resurrected on the third day and they remembered it. “For the third day every word, every prophesy from God for this church will be resurrected!”- pastor Bose declared. Then she specified that when God is silent it does not mean that He does not understand, but it means that He is waiting for the fullness of time.
“After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.” (Mt.28:1-3)
We are serving God who is able to make great changes. Enemies cannot do it. People who go against God, against Jesus, His anointing will eventually run in order to save their own life when the great earthquake takes place. We are expecting the great earthquake made by God.
“I am here to prophesy into your lives. Every problem, crisis in your life will become a throne you will sit down; these are the problems that will raise you up on higher levels. God will roll back the stone from the grave of your problem and all your hardships will become His glory in your life because He is resurrected from the dead!”, - pastor Bose said.
Pastor finished the preaching with the following words:” We are serving an Almighty God and today we recall His death and resurrection. Nowadays we can resurrect together with Him having a great victory! Everything He received by His death and resurrection He has already given to us. Why do I look positively on the future? Because Jesus is raised up from the dead!”
Extremely powerful prayer according to this word was the last note of the service.
Dear friends, may the power of God’s resurrection dwell inside of you! Be richly blessed!
